Fall Training Newsletter

Posted on Oct 1 2025 - 12:35pm

Hello Troop 181 Adult Leaders! To help everyone's overflowing email inboxes, I'm wrapping our quarterly training newsletter into the weekly E-Blast. This newsletter's purpose is to:
  1. Highlight training opportunities and upcoming deadlines
  2. Inspire each of us to become fully trained for our Adult Leader positions (If you're not a registered Leader yet, start here: https://scoutingphilly.org/leaders/newleader/)
  3. Ensure Safeguarding Youth training compliance within the Troop and encourage parents to register as Adult Leaders
Incident Reduction & Reporting Training

One of the three criteria to qualify for the Safety section of the Ring the Bell Unit Recognition Program is for at least half of our Troop's direct contact leaders (DCLs) to complete Incident Reduction and Reporting training. Mr. Cresswell, Mr. Maresca, Mr. Slawe, and I completed this as a part of our in-person IOLS training last weekend. I found it very helpful and learned some important BSA safety procedures that I wasn't previously aware of, such as what to do when you have a "near miss" and where to go to report a safety incident or membership infraction.

I encourage you to take this free 45-minute virtual course for an overview of the organization's safety policies, resources, and reporting procedures. It's offered twice in October:
  • October 20th at 7pm on Zoom
  • October 29th at 7pm on Zoom

Registration is required: Incident Reduction & Reporting Training fall schedule
